Even HaToen — free lost and found for Israel

Even HaToen (אבן הטוען) is a free lost-and-found board for Israel, run l'shem Shamayim and serving mainly the Haredi and religious community. Post a lost or found item on the website or by phone at 077-2269219 — no fees, no ads.

Right now the board has 82 open posts in 18 cities, and 12 items have been returned to their owners.

How it works

  • You lost something: post what you lost, the city, neighborhood and date. You get an alert when a matching found item is posted in the same area.
  • You found something: post it in general terms only — what and where. Keep the identifying details to yourself.
  • Simanim: the owner proves the item is theirs by giving identifying signs (simanim) — color, contents, markings. The finder compares and decides; only then are contact details shared.

Why found items are posted in general terms

Hashavas aveidah is done through simanim: the owner describes something about the item that only he could know, and the finder compares. If a found item were posted with all its details, anyone could repeat them and claim it, and the siman would lose its force. That is why the board shows only the type of item and the place.

By phone, without internet

On the 077-2269219 line you can post, hear the posts by city and neighborhood, give simanim and hear messages about your posts — by voice or keypad. The voice menu is in Hebrew.

Lost it on a bus, train or at the airport?

The item usually goes to the operator's lost-property office. Phone numbers and forms for Egged, Dan, Kavim, Israel Railways, the light rail and Ben Gurion Airport are on our lost-property offices page (Hebrew).

The name

The Talmud (Bava Metzia 28b) tells of the Even HaToen, a stone in Jerusalem where finders announced lost items and owners came to give simanim. This board is the same idea.
